Any transition for a child can be hard and scary. Starting school is as nerve wrecking as it gets. Yet, the transition from Elementary to Middle school is one of the hardest transition in a persons life. Students prepare for the new environment of many more students per grade level, lockers with combination locks, more freedom, puberty, and peer pressure. It is that awkward age of change and self responsibility.
I decided to do the lessons of preparing for middle school with the 5th grade girls. For my lesson I worked with the book: A Smart Girl's Guide to Starting Middle School by Julie Williams. This book was ideal for lessons for middle school because it breaks down in chapters how to help cope with the change.

** This was targeted towards girls for this lesson alone. There are many outlets and lessons for boys as well as the students as a whole. Preparing for middle school is different for everyone.**
