This is an ideal lesson for any grade, I did this with a first grade class. The idea behind the lesson is so show how acts of kindness and how "Fill a Bucket" can encourage cooperation, patience, flexibility, and responsibility.
I decided to get a shovel and pail for a visual example. Our read aloud of choice was "How full is your bucket?" by Tom Rath, Mary Reckmeyer & Maurie J. Manning. Students then came up with bucket fillers for our bucket in the classroom.
I drew a chart for the bucket fillers to put up in the classroom (see picture, bottom right).
